The first phase of IOTA’s peer-to-peer technical assistance service pilot project has successfully concluded in April 2021 between the Bulgarian National Revenue Agency and the Spanish Tax Agency.

The 2018-2022 IOTA strategy suggested that the Organisation facilitates technical assistance (TA) projects for the member tax administrations, and “The way in which IOTA contributes to TA projects is mostly focused on identifying partners and offering a platform for the exchange of experience.” Within the scope of TA, IOTA started to work on peer-to-peer technical assistance in 2018.

In 2020, IOTA has received a request from the Bulgarian National Revenue Agency (NRA) to assist in finding an IOTA member who would be willing to share their experience in designing a Data Governance Program. After IOTA launched a call for potential providers for this request within the IOTA membership, the beneficiary has decided to engage with the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) on this project.

Phase 1 of the project was conducted through a series of digital meetings between September 2020 and April 2021, while Phase 2 is expected to take place in the last quarter of the year.

”We are well satisfied with the outcome of the project. Our colleagues kindly shared their knowledge and experience on topics being of priority interest for the NRA, such as data cataloguing”

– said a representative of the NRA when asked about the benefits of the IOTA TA projects for their home administration.

Further information about the IOTA TA including the interview with both the provider and the beneficiary of the pilot project, a report on the results of Phase 1, as well as a video summary of the pilot, are available for registered IOTA website users on the dedicated webpage.
