IOTA workshop on 'Measuring Tax Compliance of SMEs'

The first workshop of the IOTA Work Programme 2017 on ‘Measuring Tax Compliance of SMEs’ was held on 8-10 February 2017 in Budapest, Hungary.

A total of 42 delegates from 24 IOTA member administrations along with representatives of the European Commission and the Business Community attended this event to share their experiences regarding different practices of measuring tax compliance in the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) segment.

Presentations were delivered by experts from Austria, Slovenia, Norway, Germany, Estonia, UK, Italy, European Commission’s Taxation and Customs Union Directorate General, PwC’s Tax Reporting & Strategy Tax Administration Consulting unit, and ACCA’s Tax and Business Law – Professional Insights department.

Moreover, the group work sessions provided the delegates the opportunity to identify how best to measure tax compliance levels of SMEs within the key compliance obligation elements; to explore the possibilities of using the behaviour change techniques to influence compliance of SMEs, and to evaluate the effectiveness of using compliance measurement towards SMEs.
