IOTA Forum explores data-driven approaches to debt collection and recovery

The data-driven debt collection and recovery was the main theme of the first meeting of the IOTA Forum on Tax Debt Management hosted by the Financial Administration of the Czech Republic in Prague on 1-3 October 2019. 60 delegates from 31 countries along with the representative from the European Commission’s Directorate General of Tax and Customs Union (DG TAXUD) came together to discuss the innovative techniques and best practices of using data from national and international sources in order to improve the management of tax debts.

New Executive Secretary in IOTA

From 1 October 2019, František Imrecze joined the IOTA Secretariat as Executive Secretary. He was elected by the IOTA member tax administrations at the 23rd General Assembly in Brussels in July, 2019. He took over the position from Miguel Silva Pinto, the former Executive Secretary of IOTA. He takes charge of the Budapest based IOTA Secretariat for the term 2019/2022.

IOTA Forum: How to prevent, detect and combat VAT frauds

The 2019 IOTA Forum on Combating VAT Fraud was hosted by the Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority and took place in Vilamoura, Portugal on 24-26 September 2019. Sixty-eight participants from thirty-five IOTA member countries gathered to exchange practises and methodologies related to combatting VAT fraud. Delegates from IOTA’s partner organisations, the European Commission (DG TAXUD, OLAF), the OECD and Europol were also actively present on the Forum.

Azerbaijan introduces one-click registration of businesses

From the beginning of this year single procedure (including VAT registration and opening a bank account) is needed for LLCs’ with local investments to be state registered online. All procedures that were previously in place have been abolished including the necessity of validation of e-application with electronic signature. As a result, number of procedures has been decreased from 3 to 1; the duration of the procedure was reduced to 20 minutes, while requirement of financial resources, as well as number of documents have been eliminated.

New Head at the Ukrainian Tax Service

Serhiy Verlanov has been appointment to the position of the Head of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, which was established in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The State Fiscal Service of Ukraine has been divided into two separate agencies – the State Tax Service (STS) and the State Customs Service.
