Do you want to discover what a webinar is, what features it has, what opportunities it can bring and what experience IOTA member tax administrations have in using webinars?

The word ‘webinar’ is a combination of the words ‘web’ and ‘seminar’. In contrast to a seminar, which has a physical audience, a webinar is an event which is broadcast via the internet to an exclusively online audience. Webinars are also known as web events, online seminars, webcasts, web lectures or virtual events.

Participants follow webinars (either live or pre-recorded) on their PCs, Macs, tablets or smartphones. The audio and visual components allow participants to hear and see the speaker(s). In addition to the video images, webinars can feature PowerPoint slides of presentations which can be synchronized with the audio and video. They can also be supplemented with numerous interactive tools such as chat, polls, tests and/or calls to action.

In several countries the use of webinars for learning and development objectives has become a normal approach. Not only does it save (travel) costs and time but it also can give a lot of information on the ‘learners’. What is their view on the topic, what questions do they have, what suggestions do they have… Tax administrations increasingly use webinars for their own staff as well as for taxpayers.

In preparation for technical activities of 2016 Work Programme, IOTA considered to develop new ways of reaching more tax officials in member tax administrations and enabling them to increase live and on-demand exchange of knowledge and experience by connecting virtually with other international colleagues to discuss topics of common interest.

A team of webinar experts from the Netherlands Tax and Customs Administration decided to host a first webinar for IOTA members in order to share their more than 3 year experience in conducting webinars within their organisation as well as for taxpayers and tax intermediaries. During the webinar participants will have an opportunity to ask questions to webinar experts via chat or participate in the polls.

The webinar will be conducted in English on Tuesday 1 September 2015 at 19.00 (GMT+1).
