20th General Assembly of IOTA: Data-driven Tax Administration |
 |

The 20th General Assembly of IOTA took place on 7-8 of July 2016 in Bucharest under the Presidency of the Romanian National Agency for Fiscal Administration. Heads of tax administrations from 46 countries and representatives of 11 international organisations met to discuss theme of this year’s General Assembly; “Data-Driven Tax Administration”. IOTA members have approved the organisation’s next year budget, work program and other operational issues and have elected the new statutory bodies of the organisation. The members elected Mr. Miguel Silva Pinto as new IOTA Executive Secretary for the three year period 2016/2019. The State Fiscal Service of Ukraine was elected as President of IOTA for 2016/2017, thus the 21st General Assembly of IOTA will take place in Ukraine. The Professional Theme of the 21st General Assembly will be “Disruptive Trends and New Business Models: Challenges and Implications for the 21st century Tax Administration”. Read more |

The IOTA Good Practice Guide online Forum ‘Applying Data and Analytics in Tax Administrations’ has been launched |

The Forum provides opportunity for the involved experts of the IOTA tax administration members to share ideas, examples and comments, and to raise questions in the field of data and analytics. Output from the online forum will be collected and utilised for the lanes of inspiration, which will result in an e-book compilation of experiences, examples and ideas. Currently, an increasing number of materials are placed on the secured GPG Online Forum where best practices and challenges are shared between experts from different IOTA member countries. The new Communication Strategy of IOTA is innovative and forward looking, and focuses on how communication can better help support the delivery of IOTA’s mission and strategic objectives and help IOTA tax administrations become more effective and efficient. Read more |

IOTA issued a new publication |
 |

A special edition of Tax Tribune celebrating IOTA’s 20 years anniversary was published. It contains interviews with senior executives of IOTA tax administrations where they express their views about IOTA’s past 20 years and its contribution to tax administrations and about its future. We have also requested them to share with us their most successful projects, achievements in home administration in the past 20 year. Read more |

Tax Administration Diagnostic Assessment Tool (TADAT) Training
Tax Administration Diagnostic Assessment Tool (TADAT) training took place on 25-27 May 2016 in Budapest. This IOTA training event was organised in collaboration with the TADAT Secretariat. 21 participants from 16 IOTA member countries received training to either become “Trained TADAT assessors”or “TADAT trained”. The TADAT tool provides an independent, standardised, evidence-based, quality-assured, all-round assessment of the performance of a tax administration system. Read more |
Large Taxpayers Forum
The Large Taxpayers Forum was organised by IOTA Secretariat on 7-9 June 2016 in Budapest. The theme for this year’s Forum was risk analysis in the large business segment. It was attended by 42 participants from 24 IOTA member countries. Read more |
IOTA workshop on Tracking Cash Flow in Relation to E-commerce Activities
The IOTA workshop on Tracking Cash Flow in Relation to E-commerce Activities was held on 14-16 September 2016 in Riga, Latvia. 51 participants from 28 IOTA member countries exchanged experiences regarding co-operation with internet intermediaries in following payment flows generated by e-commerce business. Members of the Technical Working Group of the ISORA/RA-FIT met in Budapest
On behalf of the Membership, IOTA participates and collects data in the International Survey on Revenue Administration (ISORA) Technical Working Group (TWG) together with the IMF, OECD and our sister organisation in the Americas, CIAT. As Chair of the ISORA TWG for 2016, IOTA hosted and conducted the annual meeting of the TWG for representatives of the four partnering organisations on 14-16 September 2016 in Budapest. At the meeting, the working group reviewed the data collection, the survey platform (RA-FIT) and survey completion for 2016, planned the next data collection round and considered future expansion of ISORA, beyond the 160+ countries already participating. IOTA Tax Professional Learning & Development Forum 2016
The second meeting of the IOTA Tax Professional Learning & Development Forum was held in Tallinn on 21-23 September 2016 hosted by the of Estonian Tax and Customs Board. Approximately 50 participants from different IOTA member countries exchanged their experiences regarding trends in learning, leadership development and demographic changes in using different formats such as Ted-Talks, Speed-Dating, Drawing sessions, group works. IOTA workshop on Transfer Pricing Issues - Practical and Procedural Aspects of MAP
The IOTA Case Study workshop ’Transfer Pricing Issues - Practical and Procedural Aspects of Mutual Agreement Procedure’ was held in Budapest on 28-30 September 2016. A total of 40 participants from 22 IOTA member administrations exchanged views and experiences through in-depth discussion of different case studies presented by Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Portugal, Latvia, and Spain.

IOTA participated in the 10th Meeting of the OECD Forum on Tax Administration |

The 10th Plenary meeting of the OECD Forum on Tax Administration (FTA) took place in Beijing, People's Republic of China, on 11-13 May 2016. IOTA was represented by the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr Jan Christian Sandberg. The focus of the meeting was how to build and maintain effective tax administrations in a globalised environment.

IOTA’s participation in OECD CFA meeting |

IOTA was represented on high level in OECD Committee on Fiscal Affairs meeting in Kyoto, Japan on 30 June and 1 July. Representatives of more than 80 countries and jurisdictions have gathered in Kyoto to push forward ongoing efforts to update international tax rules for the 21st century, the latest step in the OECD/G20 Project to tackle Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS). IOTA was represented by Acting Executive Secretary, Mr Jan Christian Sandberg. Read more |

Deepened cooperation between IOTA and the DG TAXUD of the European Commission |

|
IOTA and the Taxation and Customs Union Directorate General (DG TAXUD) of the European Commission has reached a next level of cooperation by signing the ‘Arrangement for Co-operation between IOTA and DG TAXUD’. Parties agreed that there is a need for deeper and closer cooperation in order to efficiently work together for the common goals of both of the organisations: to modernize and strengthen the capacities of tax administrations by exchanging experiences among IOTA and EU member states and candidate countries.
