IOTA Webinar ‘Leadership and Learning Culture’

On May 22, 2024, IOTA successfully carried out an impressive digital event from its annual Work Programme Activity calendar. The IOTA Webinar ‘Leadership and Learning Culture’ was attended by over 115 participants from 26 IOTA member tax administrations in the virtual space and was broadcast live from the IOTA Studio in Budapest, Hungary. We had the pleasure of having three speakers present in the studio: Jana Lokka-Palomaki from Finland, Michael Vindevoghel from Belgium, and Fabio Forzini from Italy, while Panagiotis Ballas from Greece joined us online.

The Webinar focused on the importance of developing a learning culture in tax administrations and the role of leadership in this process. It also brought some practical examples of  how a learning culture can improve internal processes, and increase the productivity, engagement, and motivation of employees. During the digital event, IOTA members from Belgium, Finland, Italy, and Greece shared their experience  of implementing different initiatives to promote leadership and learning culture within their tax administration:

  • Italy: “The role of managers' adaptive behaviour on cultivating people’s potential” presented by Fabio Forzini;
  • Finland: “Lead the learning culture” presented by Jaana Lokka-Palomaki;
  • Greece: “Transforming Tax Administrations into Learning Organizations: The Role of Leadership” presented by Panagiotis Ballas;
  • Belgium: “The importance of skills for your learning culture” presented by Michael Vindevoghel.

Before each presentation, a poll question was posed to the audience to encourage them to share their thoughts on the relevant topics. The Webinar concluded with an open debate and a Q&A session, during which participants actively engaged with questions and the speakers shared their reflections on the event.

All the materials and presentations are now available online on the event’s webpage and the event recordings will be provided soon. The Webinar was moderated by the IOTA International Taxation Expert Oksana Stepanenko with support from her colleague, the IOTA Strategy and Institutional Development Manager Roman Bichevoy.
