Newly Appointed Director General of the Public Revenue Office of the Republic of North Macedonia
Mrs. Elena Petrova, assumes the position of Director General of the Public Revenue Office of the Republic of North Macedonia on July 1, 2024.
Mrs. Petrova has been working at the PRO since 1999 and started her career as the Head of the Tax Department. She continued her career path as the Head of Unit in Sector for Operational Policies and Education, then Head of the Large Taxpayers Office , Head of Sector for Tax Assessment and Collection of Taxes, Head of Sector for Collection and Debt Management, and at the beginning of 2024, she became the Additional Deputy Minister of Finance. Since June 28, she has been appointed and assumes the position of Director General of the Public Revenue Office.
Director Petrova was also the Deputy President of the Working Body for the Implementation of the Integrated Tax Information System in the PRO, as well as the coordinator of several projects that were implemented within the framework of the Public Revenue Office. It was also an active participant in the bilateral screening for Chapter 16, and harmonization of legislation with the EU, where the PRO is responsible of area 16.4 – Operational capacity and computerization.
Mrs. Petrova graduated from the Faculty of Economics - University "St. Cyril and Methodius" - Skopje and received her master's degree from the Faculty of Psychology - International Slavic University "Gavrilo Romanovich Derzhavin", clinical and counseling psychology. She is an excellent orator and publicist, has written a series of columns on the topic of taxes and their impact, and is the recipient of Plaques and Commendations for special contribution in fulfilling the strategic goals of the PRO.
Mrs. Petrova, during her term as Director, plans to devote special attention to the transformation of PRO and creation of a "new character" and a new environment for taxpayers, for the associates of the tax administration and for employees. Throughout her work engagement, she advocates for a dynamic course of action, and now as a manager, she will devote special focus to digitization and modernization of the tax administration with the aim of reduction of administrative burden and bureaucracy and fast services for taxpayers and the business sector. She announces firm cooperation with taxpayers through networks for direct cooperation and open debate on all common challenges, as well as intensive cooperation with international organizations, the expert public, the media and other stakeholders in order through common efforts, to achieve a positive impact for increased tax awareness and tax morale in society.
