IOTA Webinar "Providing Help and Support to Start-up Businesses"

IOTA has successfully launched its 2024 Work Programme Technical Activities with its first webinar of the year, focusing on "Providing Help and Support to Start-up Businesses". The webinar was broadcast live from the IOTA studio in Budapest, Hungary on February 14th.

The digital event attracted more than 150 registered participants from various IOTA countries and featured speakers from four member tax administrations such as Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Romania.

As part of their tax compliance management strategies, IOTA member tax administrations need to focus on digitalising and simplifying tax services to help better and support start-up businesses. This webinar provided a great platform for senior tax officials from the IOTA membership to share their views on these matters. Moreover, offering support and assistance to start-up businesses can increase the voluntary compliance of taxpayers and help reduce the costs of tax audits and enforcement.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Mr Søren Vittarp, a speaker from the Danish Tax Administration, to the IOTA Studio in person, while the other presenters joined the digital event online. Mr Vittarp delivered a presentation on the topic "Initiative that Makes it Easier to Start up New Businesses". Besides Mr Vittarp's presentation, the webinar covered the following subjects:

  • Norway: “New approaches to help start-up businesses fulfil their tax obligations” presented by Ms Siri Lilledal;
  • Romania: “Offering guidance to startup business” presented by Ms Rodica Duta;
  • Finland: “Understanding the needs and challenges of start-up companies” presented by Mr Samir Abdoune.

This digital event also identified successful procedures for conducting surveys and analyses to better recognise the service needs of new taxpayers and start-up businesses. The event was closed by an interactive Q&A Session where webinar participants raised numerous questions and shared their thoughts on these topics.

All the materials and presentations are now available online and the event recording will be made uploaded soon to the event’s webpage. This event was moderated by the IOTA International Taxation Expert Massimo Morarelli and supported by his fellow colleague Ivana Donchevska.
