Newly Appointed Director General of the State Revenue Service of Latvia
Ms Baiba Šmite-Roķe assumes the post of Director General of the State Revenue Service (SRS) of Latvia on 13 February.
Ms Šmite-Roķe has been working at SRS since 2000. Her career began in the Tax Board Excise Goods Division of which she became the Director in 2015. In 2020 she was appointed Deputy Director of the Tax Board and has been Director pro temp of the Tax Board since 2023. Additionally, she has been a member of various committees, including the Ministry of Finance Forecasting Working Group and the European Commission Excise Committee, and has led the SRS Excise Advisory Council.
Ms Šmite-Roķe earned her Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Latvia in 2007 and is nearing completion of her doctorate at Riga Technical University Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management.
Ms Šmite-Roķe plans to pay special attention to the development and digitisation of SRS digital services. Her motto is “People First” through which improved, digitalised services are the key to gaining taxpayer trust and improved compliance.
