Appointment of a new Director General of the Spanish Tax Agency

On July 7, 2026, Mr. Antonio Francisco Ansón Latorre was appointed as the new Director General of the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT).

The newly appointed Director of the Agency holds a Law degree from the University of Zaragoza. He has served as a State Tax Inspector since 1999 and has been affiliated with the Tax Agency since 1988. He possesses an extensive and highly regarded professional career within the tax administration, having held numerous positions of responsibility. Additionally, he worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington between 2014 and 2022 within the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD).

Following his return to Spain at the end of 2022, he held the position of Head of Studies for the Public Directorate at the Fiscal Studies Institute (IEF) (2022–2023), served as Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department of the AEAT (2023–2024), and worked as a Researcher in Tax Administration at the IEF (2024–2025). Since April 2025, he has served as the Director of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Finance.

His profound knowledge of the tax administration and the Spanish fiscal system, combined with his executive experience in public service and his solid international track record, endorse a profile exceptionally qualified to assume the leadership of the Tax Agency in this new phase.
