IOTA Forum ‘Combating VAT Fraud’ was held in Budapest

IOTA Forum ‘Combating VAT Fraud’ was held in Budapest on 5-7 September. The Forum, which meets once a year, this time attracted 57 participants from IOTA member countries, from OECD, the European Commission, the World Customs Organisation and EUROPOL to discuss the latest trends in the fight against VAT fraud.

The theme for the 2017 Forum was “Tackling Cross Border VAT Fraud” and participants shared best practice in current VAT fraud trends, alternative methods of tackling VAT fraud, cross border VAT fraud – import / export of goods and international cooperation in respect of tackling VAT fraud. Participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the country experience and practice of Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and with the regional cooperation experience of the Nordic Agenda (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden). Representatives of the international organisations also shared with delegates their latest developments in preventing and combating VAT fraud.

Participants continued the work in the format of group discussions where they could further discuss experiences and best practice and identify new and innovative working methods of detection and prevention of VAT fraud.
