IOTA is happy to announce to welcome a new member at the Secretariat as a Tax Expert. Mr. Johannes Stipsits will fulfil the role of Mr. Vegard Holmedal who will leave us at the end of May.

Johannes started his career at the Federal Ministry of Finance Austria where he worked more than 23 years in different positions from Taxpayer Auditor to Project Leader. He joined the European Commission as Country Coordinator for Austria followed by the role of Tax Administration Advisor. His broad experience in the field of taxation, in an international work environment and fluency in German, English and Croatian accredit him to be an excellent support to IOTA and its members.

Let us give him a warm welcome even in this distant working regime.

  • Why did you decide to join IOTA?

First of all I admire and identity with IOTA – the organisation that provides its members a platform for exchanging experiences and best practices on important issues and current developments. I think this post will allow me to improve my existing skills while developing new ones. Second, I worked with IOTA in the past.

  • When did you decide to enter to world of taxation?

I was not planning to enter the world of taxation, it happened. I am since I finished ground school infected by the taxation virus. Several times in my career I had good job offers outside the tax world, but I never left this special world.

  • What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I like to communicate; therefore, I highly appreciate the direct contact with customers. In the last 14 years it was a pleasure to support tax administrations in the area of technical assistance in Europe.

  • What is the achievement that you are most proud of in your professional life?

To work together with so many different people around the world. People with different backgrounds, different colour, different language and culture, starting from the cleaning staff and ending on the ministers’ level.

  • About what are you the most excited when work at IOTA?

To be again in an international environment and to work again on the improvement of tax administrations.

  • How do you feel about starting to work with us during distant work regime?

It is the first time I am starting a new job by working from at home. It is a bit difficult for a start, but I was one of the first teleworkers in the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance and I am familiar with the distant work situation for a long time. I hope that the crisis will bring a change in the mindset of the people, for me remote work is here to stay, now it is the right time to welcome it in the public sector too.

  • What do you enjoy doing the most after work?

To do some sports and enjoying life with my family.
