 Hosted by the Georgian Revenue Service, an IOTA Special Interest Workshop was held in Tbilisi, Georgia on 17-19 September 2014 about 'Modernising Tax Payment Methods'. The Workshop was attended by 33 delegates from 24 IOTA member tax administrations.

Delegates drew detailed picture of (tax) payment methods used in IOTA member countries and of the tax administration’s strategy linked to it. Participants had the opportunity to understand enhanced payment methods of tax administrations in order to improve customer’s experience or to simplify the tax compliance processes and could explore how these initiatives linked to a broader taxpayer service demand management.

Similar systems applied in many IOTA member countries were defined under different names which can lead to confusion when it comes to comparison. Another conclusion was that measurement of the effects of the introduced modern payment methods needed to be developed soon.

Suggestions made for a follow up event were:

  • creditor Reference Number;
  • e-services/e-payment in detail;
  • singe account methods in greater depth.

Judging from the feedback from the delegates the meeting met the expectations of participants to a very large extend.
